The book takes the form of a journey with 'The Lady', through meditatin and poems. I would like to explain briefly how I perceive her, and what meditation means to me.
I believe the Lady is manifestation of Sophia, Holy Wisdom. I see her as the one who gives deep meaning to this verse from the Wisdom of Solomon:
For she knows and understands all things,
And will guide me wisely in my actions
And guard me with her glory.
She is a part of our little Chapel here in Pennal; a part of the interfaith work carried out here. It is widely recognised that interfaith dialogue is vitally important in our world to-day; it is the route to greater understanding between different faiths, and we pray the natural progression from undersanding, fo forgiveness, to eventual peace will follow. It goes without saying we look for exactly the same progression in our own lives.
Consciously, or unconsciously, I think we all meditate to a certain degree. We meditate when we are silent, when we are still and listen to the spirit of truth within. The source of the spirit of truth within will depand entirely on the individual.
The benefit derived from meditiation - the need to meditate - has been expressed by many people in many different ways: none more clearly that Mahatma Ghandi when he wrote: 'Pray a little, but meditate a lot; in prayer you speak to God, in meditation God speaks to you'.
When I begin to meditate I find I need to put the outside world on one side, settle down, and say these simple words to the Lady:'may I listen and receive your words. Although it is possible to meditate alone, to meditate in a group is often found to be very helpful; it is equally helful to meditate in a special place, such as our little Chapel here in Pennal, where the peace of the Chapel engulfs you.
In my book I explain how it came about that the Lady communicated her words to me in the silence of meditation, and how over a period of years she expressed a wish that her guidance should be shared. At that time I had five journals which, because they were so personal to me, I did not expect to share in book form. It may sound fanciful, and even presumptuous, to say that I had no peace in my meditations until I had made a selection specifically to share with others.
She has said the world stand in need of her, in need of the peace and tranquillity she brings. My hop is that to share this journey with her will go a little way to fulfilling that need. |
